Book Blast
I'm pleased to introduce you to the Edge of Darkness series of crime novels and the australian author behind them Vanessa Skye. The series features a strong female antihero and you have the chance to win one of two complete autographed series (3 novels in the series). Also up for grabs is an an e-book copy of The Enemy Inside, so check out the details below and enter for your chance to WIN.

The Enemy Inside
While exploring the darkness in others, Detective Alicia Raymond discovers her own. Chicago Detective Alicia Raymond, a.k.a. Berg, medicates her deeply buried depression and a brutal past with an obsessive desire to track down killers. Bringing murderers to justice is the only thing in her life worth living for.

So when she sympathises with a vigilante who is exacting sadistic revenge, Berg faces a perilous choice: surrender to the powerful evil inside, or finally acknowledge the past she would rather ignore.

Like Dexter and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Enemy Inside challenges the concept of justice, asks if the need for vengeance sometimes justifies murder, and explores whether you can ever heal from a broken childhood.

Broken

A Chicago mother is murdered in a robbery gone wrong...
A teenager is raped and beaten, her life hanging by a thread...

For Chicago Detective Alicia Raymond, a.k.a Berg, the need for justice burns deep and fills the emptiness when therapy and relationships fall short. And while Berg wages a life or death battle against a sociopath who is always two steps ahead, an old adversary will stop at nothing to end her career.

As Berg fights to prevent another murder, she will cross the line between hero and villain—and there’s no turning back.

Bloodlines

Following the acclaimed debut of The Enemy Inside and its sequel, Broken, comes the stunning conclusion to The Edge of Darkness series by investigative journalist Vanessa Skye, Bloodlines.
Bloodlines was released
January 15, 2015

Detective Alicia “Berg” Raymond is lying. She’s lying to the Chicago Police Department, to her boyfriend, Captain Jay O’Loughlin, but most of all, she is lying to herself—about her past, her future, and her addiction.

As Berg investigates a series of brutal rapes, she juggles finding justice for the victims, keeping her own sordid past buried, and wrapping her damaged head around living in a state of domestic bliss she’s certain she doesn’t deserve.

But when enemies from the past threaten her present, she is once again vulnerable to the demons that have plagued her. It’s only a matter of time before the lies unravel and destroy the fairy tale she’s finally started believing.

Can she save anyone from the lurking darkness or will her own bloodlines drag her under—this time for good?

Author, Vanessa Skye

After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism and studying Psychology at Charles Sturt University, Vanessa worked for 4 years as a journalist at Rural Press.

Thousands of stories later, she found herself studying a Master of Arts in Communication in Sydney and trying her hand at public relations. A few years later and Vanessa found herself studying various psychology subjects while managing a Sydney PR firm. Enthralled with examining the motivations behind people’s actions, Vanessa realised her dream in life was to combine her love of words with her fascination for human behaviour.

  1. The perfect crime would be one where you weren't caught! But I doubt that would happen :)
Not having a criminal mind, or a desire to do away with anyone makes it a difficult question to answer too.

I'm an Australian resident, and thank you for the opportunity Tracey :)

  2. Thanks for your entry Brenda, and good luck. My perfect crime would have to include rigging the Powerball so that I won the lottery, as long as it wasn't at anyone else's expense on that night.

  3. Hi Tracey,
I'm Julie and I'm also an Australian resident.
I think a perfect crime would be to disappear without a trace...is that a crime? Ok, maybe take one thing with you that you probably shouldn't.

  4. Thanks for the great offer, Tracey! I'm not Aussie but I have an address there I can use. I live in the States and love foreign literature. It gives me a chance to really know the culture and get an idea of places I would like to visit (or live?) after I retire.

My perfect crime would be a locked room, person killed by self-absorbing poison, pistol and note indicating suicide with the person's extensive library willed to me.

  5. Thanks for your entry Julie, I wonder what you would take with you...

And I love the idea of an extensive library willed to me, brilliant!

Good luck to you both :-)

  6. I'm Australian and I wouldn't mind getting some revenge on ex's without getting caught of course.
The perfect crime would include an alibi, no physical evidence, nothing to tie you to it.

    Thanks for the chance.

  7. The perfect crime would have to come with a guilt free guarantee. Ideally it would be a victimless crime, or at the very least, one without a body count.

A cyber crime of untold genius that makes me super rich & by definition happy and drop dead gorgeous.

    Fabulous question thank you.

  8. Thanks Jessica, nothing like a little revenge to get you going, hey?

And Mary, I love your cyber crime idea, I think I'd go for that one too, perhaps erasing all debt for my friends and family would be a great start ;-)

Good luck to your both and thanks for your entries.

  9. Why not aim high? Very high. The Crown Jewels, not the replicas. Or raiding the Vatican Library for the earliest manuscripts. Now that would not only be fun, exciting but worthwhile reading afterwards!

  10. Oooh, I love the idea of entering the Vatican Library or perhaps even the Bodleian library in Oxford. I could hack their system and make myself a benefactor with an office there, now you're talking!!

    Thanks for your entry :-)

  11. Hmmm, I think my perfect crime would have to be stealthily breaking in to the world's biggest and most beautiful library so that I can wander around all on my own, just inhaling the scents and feeling the covers (who knows, I might even get a chance to read a few). I'm a lover, not a fighter, so therefore wouldn't want anyone to get hurt, but it's also the perfect place for a crime to be committed!

  12. Hi Tracey,

My perfect crime (and one I'm still working towards) is to convince the world they need me as their benevolent dictator. This would be the perfect crime as anyone who questioned me would be committing a "crime" as all questioning of me would be a crime in itself.

Failing that, something involving some time travel like Steven King's 11.22.63 would be the next solution to work towards

  13. Love your break-in idea Marcia, how amazing would it be to wake up in a place like that? Dream come true.

Thanks for your entry Joe and no questions, I don't want to commit any crimes by doing so, lol! And I loved Stephen King's 11.22.63, and gave it 4 stars (http://www.carpelibrum.net/2013/12/review-112263-stephen-king.html)

Thank you both for your entries and good luck!

  14. ooh, female antihero is my newfound fave characters to read! Is it a bit like Candice Fox's Eden then?

These female antiheroes probably have the perfect crimes down pat. Avenging justice (hunt down all those criminals) to ensure a safer environment for the innocents.

  15. Thanks Tiensblurb, I like a good female antihero too :-) thanks for your entry.
